5 Tips For Working At Home With Kids

Working at home in an online business and kids can be frustrating and complicated. Many people start working at home not fully understanding how challenging it can be to balance being a parent and working.

Working at home presents new challenges that you never had when you worked outside the home. You will soon find out that if you do not get some help in managing your work and kids that you will not succeed in working at home. The following are five tips that will help you to work at home with kids and maintain your sanity and keep your job.

Tip 1 – Have a Designated Work Space

Having a designated work space will help you to make it clear when you are working and not working. Your designated work space will be a clear indication to even the smallest child that you are working and can not be bothered. When you are in your work space you are off limits.

This can even be good for the bigger kids, i.e. husbands, friends, etc. Your work space should be used only for working so it doesn’t get confusing about when you are working and when you are not. It should also be in an area that is not a high traffic area of your home. It is best if it is in a room all by itself.

Tip 2 – Have Designated Work Hours

Like having a designated work space, having work hours will let everyone know when not to bother you.

You should make it clear to everyone what hours you will be working so they do not disturb you. You may want to post a schedule if your hours vary or you may have a set schedule that everyone will simply learn.

Tip 3 – Get the Kids Involved

When you simply can not get away form the kids then get them involved. If you have something they can do then put them to work.

If not, then find something for them to do and give them their own job. Kids like to help and when they feel useful they are less likely to become a bother.Make sure you choose projects they can do on their own and where they will not have to keep coming to you for help as this would defeat the purpose.

Tip 4 – Take Regular Breaks

When you are working all day everyday it can be hard on your kids. They know you are there and they want to be with you, even for a minute.

Take regular breaks so you can let them know when you will be done and where you can spend a few minutes with them before starting again.

Regular breaks will also help you out. You get a quick rest and you can get up and move about. Breaks are always a good idea for anyone.

Tip 5 – Consider Hiring a Baby Sitter

If you simply need quiet and nothing else seems to work then you may have to hire a babysitter for a few hours each week.

Sometimes you need this extra help. Working at home does not always guarantee that you will not need a sitter.

So have someone on call or even schedule times every week to have a sitter take the kids so you can get some work done.
